SANE Smoothie Tips with The Biggest Loser’s Jay and Jen Jacobs, and Jonathan Bailor


Jen: Jonathan, now that we have incorporated the Smarter Science of Slim into our diets, smoothies have really been something that my dad and I look forward to every single day. Now, I have a major question that I know is on my mind and everybody else’s, spinach is great in smoothies and we love it, but do you recommend something else that is maybe a little bit different, but still gives us the same amount of nutrients that we need everyday that’s not always just the regular baby spinach or spinach that you can buy in bulk at a place like Costco?

Jonathan: Wonderful question, all kinds of other smoothie options. Spinach is a great choice because it is so nutrient dense. There is a bunch of other nutrient dense options. My go-to alternative to spinach would be kale, it’s not quite as good, has a bit more of a bitter taste, it blends really well, really anything green is going to be an awesome option.

So, for example celery good option, cucumbers also a really good option, and you can even go to frozen options which are really convenient also great for variety. [indiscernible 00:00] mixed vegetables, got some cauliflower, some broccoli, two kinds of carrots, the carrots have a nice sweet flavor, so that’s pretty nice.

Strawberries critical, any kind [indiscernible 00:00] green leafy vegetables in a smoothie, any kind of berry, especially strawberries and citrus fruits like grapefruit and oranges are going to cut the taste of the green vegetables quite well, taste really good, there’s really a lot of options.

I have a list here for you. Arugula, bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chard, collards, cucumber, dandelion greens and I have green beans, kale, mixt [indiscernible 00:00] greens, mustard greens, peppers, gives kind of [indiscernible 00:00] flavor, Romaine lettuce, of course spinach, squash especially butternut squash that’s really, really good, sugar snap peas, tomatoes, turnip greens, and zucchini.

The general rule of thumb though is with every single smoothie, I recommend a very deep green leafy vegetable. That should really be the base of it, but then the sky is the limit other than that and those deep green leafy vegetables Romaine lettuce, kale, spinach, and any kind of green, mustard green, turnip green, all kinds of options.
